Sustainable, eco-friendly and biodegradable – bamboo is an incredible natural resource. Its versatility has seen it used for food, housing and construction, medicine, textiles and so much more. Here’s a few things you might not know about this amazing plant.
🌿 It’s one of the fastest-growing plants on the planet
In the right climate conditions, bamboo can grow up to a metre in 24 hours, and once harvested, it can replenish itself within a year.
🌿 It helps keep our air clean, and soil healthy
Bamboo releases more oxygen into the environment and absorbs more carbon dioxide than other plants, decreasing the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. It's also one of the best plants for soil stability and to prevent soil erosion.
🌿 It’s naturally organic
Bamboo doesn’t need pesticides, fertilisers or irrigation to boost its growth.
🌿 It’s one of the most renewable resources on Earth
Bamboo is adaptable to different climatic zones and can grow over approximately 70% of the Earth’s land area – there are more than 1,000 bamboo species. All continents have native species, except for Europe and Antartica, where non-native species still grow.
🌿 It’s naturally anti-bacterial and anti-fungal
Yes, really. Bamboo has a natural barricade against bacteria – it’s one of the rare plants that can survive everything nature throws at it. The antibacterial properties of bamboo aren’t destroyed during the manufacturing process either; when bamboo tufts are processed into bamboo fibre, the antibacterial properties remain in the fabric. This makes it one of the most hygienic fabrics.
🌿 It’s great for sensitive skin
Bamboo is softer than many man-made fibres, and naturally hypoallergenic.
🌿 It’s thermo-regulating
Bamboo fibre is naturally breathable and thermo-regulating – keeping you warmer in winter and cooler in summer. It also has excellent wicking ability – in warm weather it won’t stick to the skin, keeping you drier, cooler and more comfortable.
🌿 It’s super soft
Bamboo is beautiful to sleep in and silky to the touch.
